Since UTEP spoiled our season last year, we have a little revenge on our minds. Even if Sumlin says he doesn’t think about revenge, the fact is he is 5-0 when losing to a team the season prior. I think Sumlin is just letting UTEP believe that we aren’t going to murder them Rice style.

Anywho, our list begins this year at #11, because last year we gave you the first 10 reasons UTEP sucks.

11) Mike Price causes natural Disasters – Apparently Mike Price and his magic pick-axe caused the volcanic eruption in Iceland earlier this year. I read this on the internet, so it must be true. So, fuck you Mike Price for causing major inconveniences for thousands of people. He probably caused the oil spill in the Gulf too, mining for oil under water with his pick-axe

12) Ed Hochuli – If you follow the NFL, you undoubtedly know who Ed Hochuli is. If not, all you need to know is Ref Fail! Hochuli is also proof that the NFL’s drug testing policy doesn’t apply to everyone. I’d love to see him get suspended for 4 games for PED usage. Thanks UTEP

13) The Pick-axe hand symbol – Although not as gay as TCU’s hand symbol, still pretty bad.

14) “Suspensions” - UTEP had several suspensions that were supposed to last past the first game of the season. Magically everyone learned their lesson and will be ready to play tomorrow. Not that it matters, they’re going to need all the help they can get.

15) Donald Buttram - Carted off the field with a knee bruise in practice, what a vag. This guy was only noticed because our passive turn-style defense made his career last year. If we made his career, we can end it (not in an injury way, of course).

16) Trevor Vittatoe – Every year we have played UTEP they have had an over rated QB prone to throwing INT’s. I’m not sure how Vittatoe is still starting, but at least he’s not living off the coat-tails of his brother like former UTEP QB Jordan “interception” Palmer.

17) You will probably die if you go to El Paso - If you think the third ward is bad (which it’s not, thanks gentrification!), at least you don’t live in El Paso. In a statistic I just made up, I found that there is a shooting in El Paso every 12 seconds

18) The Sumlin – Price love affair - We all know how Price gave Summie his first job, and how they talk all the time. Why can’t they hate each other? It’s so boring to hear how much respect everyone has for each other, and to know going into the game that no matter how bad we rape UTEP, Sumlin will have the courtesy to give Price a reach around.

The Cougars make their glorious return to football on Saturday against the lowly Div 1-AA (because we don’t like the term FCS) Southwest Texas Texas State Bobcats. It should be very one-sided contest since most of the school is still floating river, and generally speaking most people are above shit-talking a team in a lower league, but we aren’t. So here is what you need to know about Texas State.

1. Texas State Grads have pearly whites!  -  San Marcos here we come.  When people think backwoods, country bumpkin, marrying your sister hill county college grads from San Marcos State, you usually will have a picture of this person.  No, not at Southwest Texas though.  In fact, they made it a point to let you know about this in this video:  Don’t be fooled, getting a blowjob from a Texas State grad is like getting a blowjob from your grandma – the gums help with the sensation.  For more explanation on how a Texas State Grad will give you the time of your life, See here.
2. Texas State can’t figure out its own name – Are you Texas State?  Southwest Texas State?  Maybe if you put Texas in the beginning of your school name will make some high school kids think they’re applying to TU instead of your school.  Its like buying a Hyundai when you thought you were buying a Honda.  Changing your name to Texas State does nothing to your social status – You’re still the red headed stepchild of Texas Universities . . . wait, that’s us.
3. According to Wikipedia, the original name of the school was Southwest Texas State Normal School. Nothing reeks of a school for the mentally challenged more than the name “normal school.” I’m sure that the teachers told all their students that the were normal just like everyone else (except for the herpes).
4. You can’t drink after midnight!  San Marcos closes its bars at midnight.  Why?  Probably to curb drinking and help college kids go home at a reasonable hour.  Yeah. Right.  Reason this out.  Go ahead and get smashed here in San Marcos, close down the bar, and drive to Austin blitzed out of your mind.  An average night for a Texas Statian [Ed note - Our new word].  Fucking retards!
5. Pigs fly at Texas State (into the water that is)– San Marcos’s Claim to Fame?  How about the homecoming queen of Texas State gets to perform in front of a live audience at a world famous amusement park.  Don’t believe me?  The proof is in the pudding.
6. If you can’t get into college – Go to Texas State!  Texas State’s minimum GPA for admission: 2.0. Graduate from High School and you can get into Texas State.  And even with such high standards, Texas State claims to be the 5^th largest public school in Texas.  How shitty does your school have to be where if you graduate from high school you get in, yet you can’t even get enough applicants to best four other public schools in Texas?  Mosey on over to San Marcos and ask a Texas State Student!
7. We have the bluebonnets on the side of the road thanks to Texas State – Fuck you Texas State.  Every time in the spring I see our highways and byways overgrown with weeds and shitty flowers, it makes me curse the day Texas State was born.  You provided us with one of the greatest presidents – LBJ.  LBJ’s greatest achievement – being married to Lady Bird.  Nothing says Texas like fat white trash rednecks piling all of their kids out of the minivans, blocking a lane on the highway, so they can sit their chunky kids in weeds on the side of the road and take pictures.
8. The Bobcats don’t take shit from nobody – Mascots are supposed to be fun loving, carefree, kid friendly, funny creatures.  That’s why they have the big heads and fluffy bodies.  Except for the Texas State Bobcat. He’s a bad ass son of a bitch who won’t take shit from nobody.  Well fuck you Bobcat!  Flicking off your own fans!  Wait till Shasta picks you up by the balls a tea bags you back to the Guadalupe River.
9. Texas State is a cultural oasis – When you think of plays and musicals to bring to your fine university what plays would you find that will make the most snobby of theatre snobs cream their pants?  Bat Boy the musical.  Live at Texas State!  Bringing culture to your small redneck of the woods.  Seriously?

11. Texas State had a documentary made of its early football days – Fuck you Texas State and your world famous football team.  They had a has been QB, and even let hot slutty girls play!

Well, Rice decided to make UH their homecoming game, isn’t that special. I guess they felt that they needed more motivation to play in the game this year besides the bayou bucket, and their 73-14 embarrassment last year. I mean they put up less effort than Northwestern St. a FCS school. They sure didn’t live up to their slogan “Fight, never die.” Also, Coach David Bailiff probably needed to rethink where he put the phrase “ball security” on their shorts. Fail.

Anyways, there was a lot of rookie drama this past weekend in the NFL. First Dez Bryant refused to carry Roy Williams’ shoulder pads saying “Bitch, I’m here to take your job, you should carry my shit!”* Also, Ravens rookie Sergio “Amazon” Kindle fell down, not 1, but 2 flights of stairs…. That’s pretty impressive. Not many details have been released, but this is what we know about Sergio Kindle

• He was arrested for DUI in college
• He had a second mysterious single car accident where he drove into a wall.
• His dad is named Johnny Walker… Seriously.

Finally, Maurice Clarrett has wised up and, after being released from prison, he found the one place it is acceptable to carry booze around with you at all times (like he did at Bronco’s training camp). COLLEGE! That’s right, he has enrolled in fall classes at Ohio State. Also, in an unrelated story, Ohio State has a new walk-on running back named Claurice Marrett.

UH pwns Rice!

It’s the doldrums of summer. Luckily this year we had the World Cup for the beginning of the summer. Now it’s all baseball all the time. Even ESPN is bored with baseball and had a front page picture of cycling, or at least that’s what I think it was since I can’t read. However, UH is still pwning Rice even in the offseason, according to the Chron. They’ve mailed in Rice’s homepage so bad that they’ve now started reporting more UH stuff.

However, fear not people, NFL training camps start this week. This means 2 things. 1) We will have something to talk about. 2) We can officially start researching fantasy football draft info. Hell I scheduled finishing my medical school applications around being finished in time to put 100% in to my fantasy football drafts. (That way I didn’t accidently submit a mock draft as an essay explaining what contribution I would make to the field of medicine).

Houston Astros – Something about the Astros trading or not trading Roy Oswalt…. I don’t know, talk about it amongst yourselves.

Houston Rockets – The Rockets signed C Brad Miller. This at least gives them someone to start for 20-25 games while Yao is injured. Houston fans are depressed CP3 doesn’t want to come to Houston.

Houston Cougars – I’m planning my trip to LA for the UCLA game this week. I’m excited, who is with me?

First of all, out of respect to Cavs owner Dan Gilbert, the rest of this post will be written in comic sans.

“The Decision” has been made, and unfortunately we were all witnesses last night. I have no dog in this fight since my 2 teams (Spurs and Rockets) were unaffected, but as an innocent bystander, I think the big loser is Lebron. I have family in the Miami area, so first I put myself in their shoes, which made me feel excited and kinda dirty, which is oddly appropriate since that is about how you feel any time you are actually in Miami. But, I couldn’t help but sympathize with the Cavs fans, since I was 15 in San Antonio when Tim Duncan was a young free agent. The HEB by my house, which he shopped at, hired a crane for 2 weeks to fly a “Stay Tim Stay” flag. Luckily for us he stayed and we won 3 more championships.

Ugh… that’s enough Comic Sans…. However, as a third party, Lebron’s choice says the following things to me:

 First, he doesn’t have the mental and testicular fortitude to put a team on his back and win a championship like his idle MJ. Before now, a younger superstar might have look to some past their prime veterans for the experience to help them win their first title, but never has a younger superstar had to join his peer or competitor to help. This was ok for the aging trio of Allen, Pierce and KG because their window was closing. If Lebron wants to be known as the best of his era, he needs to have the most titles, and as of right now he will be D-Wade -1. This isn’t something a dominant competitive player would do. MJ and Kobe are too obsessed with proving they are better than EVERYONE including their own teammates, and that’s what makes people respect them even more. Everyone likes someone who has a killer instinct and can SINGLE HANDEDLY crush the competition and rip their heart out. In my opinion, Lebron just made Kobe more likeable (yuck!).

Second, Lebron told the owners that it’s not ok for you to collude behind the players’ backs, but it is ok for the players to collude behind the owners backs.

Lebron is no “hero” for taking less money to play with D-Wade and Bosh. Maybe if he were taking less money to stay with the Cavs so they could pay some better players. Taking less money to play on another team is not something alpha dog players do. It is something other players do to play with the alpha dogs. This basically maginfies the big FUCK YOU he gave to Cleveland, whose main export is depression.

Finally, Lebron James is all that is wrong and evil about professional sports. As I argued earlier, we want to see fearless killers on the field of play in any sport, the hunger to win a title no matter who is on your team and what kind of underdog you are. Lebron just proved he just wants to win without working very hard at it, while being on a team with his friends, in a location where he can party all the time. Wait, all that sounds right up FaF’s alley… WHERE CAN I GET A LEBRON HEAT JERSEY?!

According to ESPN, all sports activities were postponed yesterday while Lebron finalized “The Decision”

But, the Astros won, the Rockets were somehow involved in a trade so Miami could get rid of Michael Beasley’s crazy ass pay their superstars, and UH is still fucked

Fourth and Fifty has gained information ahead of the announcement of LeBron James’ choice of teams later tonight. Before the hour-long special – the LeBronathon if you will – the NBA and David Stern will reveal some crucial changes to help The King make up his mind. With the signs pointing to LeBron joining the Miami Heat to play along side Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade, Stern wanted to make sure to allow his youngest nova to flourish.

Sources close to the rules committee have told Fourth and Fifty that the NBA is prepared to add at least one, if not two, basketballs to the court during the duration of the game. Ensuring that each of the major stars will get their touches was listed as the most important reasons the change is being considered. This will be the first time more than one ball will be in play since the 1874 championship when the Topeka Tornadoes defeated the Charleston Green Sox.

After learning about the potential change in gameplay, we reached out to Stern for comment. He told us that “it is essential for the NBA’s ability to grow in new markets. We want to see star power. By adding a second ball to the game we can allow teams with multiple stars to expand creativity and add excitement.” I think that’s what he said because all I wrote down in my notebook however was “China, China, China, LeBron, China, LeBronski, China…”

Because LeBron is playing with his basketball camp right now, he was unavailable for comment. Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade, however, told us in tandem “whatever we can do to get BronBron down to Miami we will do it. Blowskies, handskies, buttskies, whatever it takes.”

When asked to comment, Paul Pierce, KG and Ray Allen said, “what? we weren’t worth two basketballs?”

The league has said it will be willing to consider adding another basket at both ends of the court as well if LeBron thinks that will be best for his point totals next year. They have also mentioned giving the New York Knicks 24 free wins if James will sign to play in Madison Square Garden and are prepared to H-bomb the shit out of New Jersey if the Nets win out.

Daryl Morey, I owe you a gallon of your favorite ice cream. ESPN is reporting that Chris Bosh will be signing with the Miami Heat. Hmmm…. Guess who predicted that Bosh would pick Miami? All 3 of you who read that post should be in awe of my psychic powers. Everyone else, back away from the ledge, Morey insists he has 5 other contingency plans.

Not to be outdone, Lebron has reserved an hour of air time on ESPN tomorrow to announce his decision on live TV. Apparently Lebron has to make up for not being a major college football recruit. I hope he is sitting at his old high school gym with hats from each of the teams he is considering. Either way, I’m sure he will be very ambiguous for about 80% of the conference to try to build suspense, and then he will choose the Cavs and everyone will be underwhelmed.

Hey Lebron, 9 people other than sports media are going to be watching your cries for attention tomorrow. Just freaking sign a deal and have a normal press conference like everyone else. You aren’t going to win more than 6 titles and become the best ever. Go back to Cleveland, and get to the finals and try not to get demolished like last time.

Houston Astros – Beat the Pirates last night. I was offered free tickets to the game, but I turned them down because I prefer to take naps at home.

Houston Rockets – plan to roll through summer league, again, by playing their rotation guys. I don’t know why we care about this. Although I guess it’s nice to have a team that does well in their off season league, Astros.

Houston Cougars – Saw 2 UH alumni play each other last night in the Pirates – Astros game, and by saw I mean talked about it while doing things that were actually interesting.

JaMarcus needs to slow his roll

Apparently, JaMarcus Russell needs to slow his roll, because the life of an NFL flame out is too fast. I guess that’s why he was busted for having that sizzurp, or purple drank if you will, this weekend. To be honest, I’m going to give JaMarcus the benefit of the doubt here. I think that this was an honest attempt to change for the better and prove that he belongs in the NFL. My reasoning is that he probably thought that the “sizzurp” slows your “rolls” not roll. So maybe he was just confused and thought he was taking an appetite suppressant.

In other news, Amare Stoudamire signed with the New York Knicks. I guess the Knicks felt empty without paying max money to a roll player at best. Sure, sure, some of you will throw statistics in my face, but let’s face it, when given the chance to sign a veteran free agent that has had injury problems, including microfracture surgery, to a long-term max contract you should do it right? Everyone, wants an aging overpaid injury prone star in 4 years with a few years remaining on their contract, right T-Mac? Let’s not forget that D’Antoni’s exit from Phoenix was directly related to Amare’s unhappiness (which he immediately regretted when playing for Terry Porter). Now, once all the other big free agents sign elsewhere, let’s see which roll player the Knicks decide is worth a max deal. At least they still have first round draft picks…. Wait, I hear Daryl Morey saying “All your base are belong to us.”

Houston Cougars - Michael Bourn made the all star team, Go COOGS! Also, in other UH baseball news, Todd Whitting returns to UH to be the new head baseball coach from TCU. Baseball people say this is a good hire, but I will continue not pay attention to baseball in any way, shape, or form until people tell me that a Houston team is in the playoffs.

Houston Cougar Conference realignment update: We’re still fucked

NBA Free agent season started last night at midnight, and Daryl Morey got the first crack at convincing Chris Bosh where to to sign. Daryl’s key tactic was a personalized Chris Bosh iPad. My guess is that it was a regular iPad dressed in a cowboy hat, denim jacket, and leather vest.

Also, Morey, known for being good with numbers, miscalculated Bosh’s location by 1,300 miles when he sent a “caravan of fans” to greet Bosh in Miami. Except the Texas native was in Dallas. I just hope that was a SAM (yeah middle school math jargon!), and not a sign of his real math skills.

I will say that I think it is unlikely that we end up with Chris Bosh, and I will buy Daryl Morey a gallon of his favorite ice cream to eat out of the carton in his pajamas while watching a marathon of netflix movies when the Rockets get rejected for a younger sexier team.

In fact, I would say that the Rockets are the “Cougar” of the teams pursuing Bosh. Not quite the sexiest we have been, our star player is a little older and injury prone, but we have some good assets and we may have a few tricks up our sleeve other younger teams haven’t learned yet.

Unfortunately, we will still probably get left in the cold for a team with a bigger name marquee player, and a city with better night life (not that Houston is bad). I predict Miami, but that probably means it will be Chicago or New York. A twenty something millionaire isn’t convinced by things like “no state income tax” and “lower cost of living.”

The new reason I will get kicked out of sporting events

Sorry for the lapse in posting, some of us have real jobs you know… But, I am glad to see that some of the old bottom posters have returned to the site.

I do want to say that I’m glad that my life can return to normal sans soccer, now that the USA is out of the world cup. I did enjoy the fun while it lasted, because it’s still more exciting than baseball. However, much like visiting a foreign country, I was ready to return home to American sports that score points, and have commercials so I can get up and pee.

The 2010 World Cup did leave its mark on me though, with my new red vuvuzela that will last probably all of 37 minutes of the first UH game I bring it to. You can guarantee that I will wreck havoc on opposing offenses as they approach my section on about the 10 yard line. My goal is to be responsible for one goal line stand and one safety, purely based on the loud annoying buzz, and not the players or defensive scheme on the field. Because if it happens on the field while I am blowing my vuvuzela (no homo), then I must be the one responsible for the events.

However, I will not be using the following South African guide to proper vuvuzela usage:

Last night the Houston Rockets selected PF Patrick Patterson from the University of Kentucky. Obviously, constipation is his biggest on the court concern. I have heard him described as Chuck Hays with offense. However I must say that I dislike the pick, not because he is a bad person and not because he played for Coach Calipari and therefore is a cheater.

No, I had the luxury of spending last night at dinner with a number of Kentucky fans very proud of their players for underachieving. Last time I checked Kentucky was ousted before the Final Four and Duke won the championship. It took all my might to refrain from commenting about this being a weak draft, and that Kentucky will be on probation by 2013.

Also, I’m disappointed that Morey didn’t Jedi mind trick anyone into giving the Rockets a good deal on a higher draft pick to use on someone like Ekpe Udo. (Warning to Ekpe Udo: You will probably bust now that I am on record as wanting to have drafted you). But Morey says that P-Pat (as the Kentucky fans call him) was who they were trying to move up to get

Well, hello again. FaF is back from it’s unannounced hiatus, and by back I mean it’s just me, Pipez, and whomever I can round up to post once and a while.  We had decided that too many people were reading the blog and we couldn’t handle all the fame and fortune.

Actually, I took time off to take the MCAT, and Septimus decided to work on other projects. Everyone else has fallen off the face of the earth. So, we’ll just move on like we never took a break, and get back to boring off season sports talk as we prepare for football season.

It’s the most wonderful time of year again, my fellow FAFians. Not Christmas, not Superbowl weekend, no that time that Chick-Fil-A dropped an extra nugget in the little box. It’s March Madness.

And this year, it’s extra mad because of our much-maligned Men’s Cougar Basketball team shocking the entire country state city by putting a beat-down on C-USA and booking a spot in the Big Dance for the first time since ’92.

Now, I think its fair to say that this is total bullshit that we made it in the tournament this year. Our own coach called the team dead men walking at one point, and our record was piss-poor. But you know what? I’ll take it. No more CBI or whatever the hell that other shitty tournament is for us! Sweet Sixteen? Elite 8? Ours for the choosing.
