It’s the most wonderful time of year again, my fellow FAFians. Not Christmas, not Superbowl weekend, no that time that Chick-Fil-A dropped an extra nugget in the little box. It’s March Madness.
And this year, it’s extra mad because of our much-maligned Men’s Cougar Basketball team shocking the entire country state city by putting a beat-down on C-USA and booking a spot in the Big Dance for the first time since ’92.
Now, I think its fair to say that this is total bullshit that we made it in the tournament this year. Our own coach called the team dead men walking at one point, and our record was piss-poor. But you know what? I’ll take it. No more CBI or whatever the hell that other shitty tournament is for us! Sweet Sixteen? Elite 8? Ours for the choosing. This also means that The Merm will likely be around for another year, both because he shimmied his way into the tournament when he needed it most, and because we don’t have $500K to pay him off.
Our 13th seed puts us in a tough matchup against Maryland at 8:40am on Friday. Who the hell decided we would open the day? How can I go to Buffalo Wild Wings for a 3 hour lunch at 8 in the morning? I mean, I’ll do it, but come on.

Okay so I promised not to dog the boys until the Merm was gone, I had/have a huge plate of crow that I am eating for breakfast/lunch/dinner for the shit that I talked. On the strength of this 4 game run, I will witness MY team in a Tourney game…I have been waiting for a long time, since 1994 for the bball squad to be relevant; and are they? maybe. But they are to Houston…our teams seem to be peaking at all of the right times…have the planets aligned for a Cougar Revival!
Fuck it, they made…Penders can ride out the rest of his contract and will not hear another word out of me for his toupee on a platter. Do your thing Tom, make this a team of legend, nay…a team of destiny. Another Cinderella team aint got shit on us!

The response from the NCAA Licensed Buying Department was…No, we are not ordering anything for the NCAA Tournament right now because it’s too early and too many teams will be weeded out very quickly.

You may correct. I’ve had a hard time finding the exact times. CBS’ website doesn’t even seem to have them. That would probably make more sense, as I believe games usually start at 10am.

So…if the CBI WAS cutting edge…and Merm really did mean it during his interview on 610 AM that he recieved and declined five job offers with better money over the last few years…what is this world coming to? Maybe Georgia Southern REALLY was that good.
No worries, Oneton. Let’s see what REAL expectations bring next season and Merm’s last year on his contract the year after. The problem for Merm is that four games showed this team CAN rebound and shoot halfway decently while losing the bulk of 15 games against competition that Coogfans claims is way beneath the boys. Yup. Troof.
I just want to know where this act was ALL season long! I want to know where teh hell it came from without raising an eyebrow and saying WTF? at teh same time, too!
Word…here is what get’s my goat. All of the pro-Penders will defend him saying the following: He has averaged 20 wins since he has been here. Troof. During any of those ’20 wins’ did he get his team to the tourney? Ehh…no. So here we are sitting at 19 wins and a birth, a shot, an opportunity, to play in meaningful post season play.
This is my next point, I don’t care if he wins 13 games ALL F-ING YEAR; just so long as we can get into the dance! Are the regular season games meaningful, yes…will they get you into the NCAA’s…yes, but only if you are NOT in the CUSA. So there are only a few ways in and we finally got our foot into the door of the dance…ugly chick in tow! So Merm, win the games when it matters most! This is all I ask…regular season be damned, just get us into a tourney NOT named CBI, Dicks Sporting Goods Post Season Extravaganaa…blah blah.
Unfortunately for Mermy, the bar is set high…is this a problem, no…not unless you are named Tom with the last name Penders.

Excellent. And don’t forget we play Texas Tech on ABC, the conference championship game at the Rob on ESPN, and our bowl game will be on ESPN or one of the Big 4. Fucking Football…get here already. It really is nice of the basketball to try and hold us over though…and the baseball team isn’t so bad either. It’s hard to believe it, but I’m actually pretty much happy with UH Athletics all around right now.
I would agree, right now we are in a nice spot.
Please keep on the back burner, the proposed plan for the Athletics upgrade due to be out in 6 weeks, Spring Practice and the Red-White game 24-April…between that and how the ping-ball team does…plus a nice healthy afterglow from all of the Bball action…I am quite content.
Not to mention World Cup in June…

I was really considering it, but I was like, “there’s a lake Houston…where the hell is that?” So I looked it up and it’s like 70 miles from my house (Richmond). Can’t make that trip tonight. Maybe with some planning Do you guys camp, ski, or fish out there? I didn’t even know there was a lake that close.
As much shame as I feel, we don’t really do much of that. We dont have a boat/jet skis, not sure you can ‘camp’ at Lake Houston, and if I had a boat…i would sure as hell fish. I have come across plenty of ppl bank fishing…and there are tons of spots. Mostly we use Duessen Park to hang out, bbq, drink, and have fun.

I grew up in Sugar Land, my parents live next to the mall. We have a ski boat and a bass boat, but they’re up at Lake LBJ north of Austin. I’m not much of an outdoorsman really, but since I got married I’ve learned to appreciate places I where I can get away without running up a $100+ bar tab. I used to make fun of all the hicks in their camo gear that hunt and fish, and then I got married and realized these guys are onto something. Football season only gives me an excuse to be gone on weekends for 4 months out of the year.
