October 6th Houston FaF Smear

Song of the Day: Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears – “Sugarfoot”

I bought you a box of chicken... but I ate it on the way home.

I bought you a box of chicken... but I ate it on the way home.

The vacation is over. Three full days of rock-your-cock-off, live music at Austin City Limits has left me exhausted even two days after it’s all said and done. Sunday by far was the best day out of the three with Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears starting off the…WHAAAAAAAAAAAA?!?!?!

What happened while I was gone?! The Cougars LOST?! To fucking UTEP?! A team that doesn’t even have a fanbase that wanted to seek out our comments section after we talked 10 kinds of shit about their team/city/”university”? How did this happen? Who is to blame for this travesty?

Not only did the Coogs shit the bed against the Ass Miners, the two touchdown loss sent them reeling out of the Top 25 in the AP Poll (fuck you, writers). Guess who didn’t have Le Cougars on their ballot… One guess. Are you thinking of an answer yet? If you thought “Scampi” then you’d be right on the money. The Scampinator doesn’t think his beat is worthy of a top spot in the nation if you take a look at his ballot. Not that he’s alone – there are a total of 31 writers that deem UH unworthy – but come on.

For those of you keeping track at home, let’s take a look at the aftermath of the loss:

  • Harris Interactive – #26
  • AP Poll – #27
  • Coaches Poll – #29

The Computer polls don’t do the Cougars any favors either:

I don’t agree with the fact that the Cougars should fall completely out of the Top 25 with the loss. However, the loss is very much reprehensible… We know that our defense plays the part of sieve against the run, but the fact that Mike Price knew how to take advantage of that is just insulting. Scampi’s article yesterday is along the same lines… UH Defense Like a Kinda Chubby Self-conscious Sorority Chick, Easy to Run Through.

On to the the rest of the Houston sporting news:

ASTROS – HAHA!!! Just kidding.

KEVIN KOLB – The dream is over (at least for this week). McNabb is back at practice and the Kolbatron is now back to sticking his hands under the ass of the back-up center. The oft injured McNabb is no shoe-in to finish the rest of the season… We’ll see how this might develop.

ROCKETS – Kind of playing off of TRG’s comments yesterday, getting excited about Tracy McGrady practicing with the team is like getting excited during phone sex when the only thing your girl is describing is giving you a hand job. It’s not the real thing and it’s not even what you want anyway. But, Tracy McGrady is practicing and feeling better than expected! Rawr!

DYNAMO – Houston’s footie team has clinched their playoff birth. It’s a boy! Champagne showers all around!!

TEXANSThe Swine Flu Cometh. In this world of biological warfare that we now live in, the Texans have themselves a not-so-secret weapon. Swine Flu. Send the infected on a blitz, hit the quarterback head on, make sure some of your sweat finds its way into start quarterback’s eye, if facing a roughing the passer penalty or late hit take it anyway… Those 15 yards are well worth the demobilizing the opposing team’s offense.

  1. Dude – “I don’t agree with the fact that the Cougars should fall completely out of the Top 25 with the loss.”

    WTF?

You must not have watched the game.

    • You’re telling me that each writer votes on a week-by-week basis? If that were the case the swing after playing OSU would have been much greater. “Beating a Top 5 opponent puts you in the Top 5. Losing to an unranked opponent puts you in the throes of being unranked.” That’s not how it works in my book.

      • No; I’m telling you any writer that suffered through that game would drop us completely out of the top 25, like Scampi did. That was one of the worst choke jobs I’ve ever seen.

        • Ok, so if that’s the case, exactly one writer is justified in dropping the Coogs out of the Top 25… What about the other 30? They waited to read Scampi’s live-blog to figure out how to vote OR they saw a box-score the next morning? I would have had UH firmly at #25 on Sunday, especially viewing it from a national perspective.

          • We aren’t far off from 25. Lots of writers have us in the top 20. I dunno about the others that dropped us out. Mebbe they just don’t like us. It’s tough being a Coog sometimes.

If we hand Miss St their ass on Saturday, we’ll get back in, hopefully.

            • Yes, I agree that with a win against yet another “BCS” conference team we’ll make our way back into the hearts and minds of the writers and coaches.

  2. I’m curious to hear how the others feel about our ranking and whether or not they watched the game.

I know Pipez was live-blogging the A&M game so I’m pretty sure he caught the feed. (Notice how neither one of us has posted much in the last 3 days? Too depressed.)

  3. I haven’t posted because I’m too hung-over from ACL and all of its glory. As far as the Coogs go, if I didn’t see it, then it didn’t happen. Why aren’t we still #12?

  4. Okay, if it wasn’t Pipez, which one of you shortknockers was calling me out on the aTm live game blog on Saturday?

  5. We definitely belong in the top 25 now. When USC, a top five (5) team at the time, lost to a previously winless Washington (I believe 16 in a row dating back to 2007), they dropped like five (5) spots. I consider that far worse than our loss so we should have dropped about 10 spots.

    • Agreed. Though, Washington won the week before they beat USC, I understand the point. I guess I can understand Scampi’s ballot a little. He dropped Okie State 16 spots after they lost to an unranked team (UH)… But, at this point there’s a “body of work” to take into account when assessing a program’s ranking.

  6. How can you be surprised that Steve dropped us? That dude is the Anti-Coog. I listened to the game, and even though I wouldn’t drop us out…I’d have moved us to 20-25, I instantly knew we were donesky. I’m just glad we are as high as we are. We flat out got our shit kicked in. It was like 2001. The reason we’re out of the top 25 is because it was so bad that our defense is going to have to stop Miss State this weekend before anyone will believe we can ever win a game the rest of the year. Obviously everyone is over reacting and we will be fine. I like our chances this weekend and Vegas still has us by 4. I think our D has to be looking for some serious redemption….especially on ESPNU. Plus Miss State has a 5’10″ QB, their QB’s have as many picks as touchdowns, and their secondary blows. A win Saturday and we are right back in the polls. Fuck UTEP.

    • I don’t think Scampi is anti-coog, he’s just objective. Again, if you *watched* the game, you’d still be sick like I am.

      • He’s not anti-coog…He’s “the” anti-coog.

        • So much animosity…

          • So much muther-fuckery…

            FTMFW!!!
