Song of the Day: Kings of Leon – “King of the Rodeo”

Didn't your momma tell you "don't point." It's rude.
What happens when The Random Guy forgets that he’s supposed to write the Smear? Soccer fucking happens.
It’s ok though, because this is a completely Houston slanted post and will have nothing to do with actual soccer items except for one note. A goal. Americans love scoring. Some Americans love it more than others. The celibate ones in life are really missing out. (go to the 55 second mark for the build-up to the goal)
Houston Dynamo, Ricardo Clark scored the lone goal against Trinidad and Tobago in the World Cup qualifier yesterday afternoon. The goal gave the USMNT the win and three points to break a tie with Honduras at the top of the CONCACAF standings. All three Dynamo on the National team that traveled to T&T found themselves on the pitch even though Clark was the only one who started. Brian Ching got subbed in at the 76′ mark and Stuart Holden found himself in the line-up in the 81st minute.
Nothing else of note really happened. I definitely passed out on the couch minutes after the goal was scored. But, Team USA definitely looked like it was going to crap it’s pants early. Huge saves by Tim Howard kept the Stars and Stripes long enough to find the win.
So, maybe there were a couple of soccer-related notes… oh well.
On to your other Houston sports updates:
ASTROS – Miguel Tejada was the Astros’ savior last night. Going into the ninth inning, the ‘Stros were down 1-0 with the Braves’ reliever, Rafeal Soriano on the mound. That lead vanished in the sequence of strike-out, single, double, intentional walk, 2-RBI game winning walk-off hit.
ROCKETS – The best center that Rober Horry ever played with? Kevin Willis! Hakeem the Dream. Just ask him yourself. Or read this article in which he was already asked the question.
UNIVERSITY of HOUSTON – In case you missed it, UH dropped their basketball schedule yesterday. I know Scampi had it on his Chron blog, but here it is on UHcougars.com. Not too many interesting non-conference games this year. Western Kentucky looks like a good one, but that will be in Bowling Green. Always good to see the Coogs match-up against a previous NCAA Tourney team.
JOHN ROYAL IS WRITING ABOUT THE HOUSTON COUGARS (again)!!! Pleast get him off my radar.
SAINT ARNOLDS – You’re gonna have to get to the store quick if you want to partake in the newest edition in the Divine Reserve collection of Houston’s own Saint Arnold’s Brewery…
I’m pretty sure that’s the most blasphemous thing that I’ve seen in a while. Though, I can’t get over how much it makes me want to drink Saint Arnold’s Divine Reserve #8. Do you want hints of toffee? You like caramel notes? A bonus hint of smokiness brewed right in? Yes, yes and fuck yes. I want all of those things! I want them all in a beer that I can refridgerate and drink. (On sale today, go and get yourself some)

Did they miss the memo that Billy’s dead? I’m a little offended that they are using him to push their beer.
If you can’t get any SA #8, try some old chubb by oskar blues (same brewery that makes dales that I had at the tailgate but didn’t share with anyone).
It’s in a can too ;)
