University of Houston: AD’s, BCS, CUSA, FML!

So much news from Cougarland this week! I’m going to try to fit it all in one post, but I’ve only done this twice. Most importantly, the classified finalists for the athletic director position have been leaked.  I broke the story here first. The Chron has the rundown of the finalists here. I’m not going to lie, I haven’t looked in depth at each candidate, but I like most of the candidates, and I’m sure we will do a more in depth look at all of them soon. I just hope UH makes a gutsy hire because this is an important job, with no room for screwing up. I trust Dr. Khator will make a good hire though… I don’t think she’s lost it.

This is what I know about the Athletic Director position; we need someone who can do 3 things:

• A) fundraise!
• B) kick ass at sales and marketing
• C) hold people accountable for their responsibilities and meeting expectations.

I know what you are thinking, and this guy is not interested. I know one candidate helped create the Jailblazers nickname for the Portland NBA franchise, and that’s about it.

Moving on, football season is right around the corner (I hope its around the corner, please let it be around the corner!!!!) and since K-Sum and Co. have finished recruiting for this year, and seemingly have nothing else to do, they have decided to get a head start on recruiting for next year by picking up 13 guys so far. I don’t scout recruits, so I don’t know if they are good but everyone else seems to like them. Check them out here.

This team also seems to be garnering a little more respect than us UH fans are used to recently. Case Keenum is the #1 player for NCAA fantasy football (which I did not know existed). Kevin Sumlin is underrated as an underrated coach at #5 (Booo! Art Briles is overrated as an underrated coach). We are also a potential BCS buster according to an ESPN blog. Unfortunately, he likes the dirty Southern Miss Golden Eagles ahead of us… THEY MARRY THEIR COUSINS IN MISSISSIPPI!!!! HOW ARE THEY BETTER THAN US? INCEST MAKES PEOPLE GENETICALLY INFERIOR!!! Oh well, apparently it worked for Brett Favre.

Finally, I will leave you with some interesting tidbits from football guru, Phil Steele. I would just like to say that Phil Steele has a great site, that has so much potential to be better if they had a blog for each team in the NCAA run by the team’s own bloggers… What’s that you say? They want people to blog for them? I wonder if there are any UH fans who have blogs who would want to blog for them… Where ever are they going to find bloggers who are smart and entertaining (and ridiculously good looking!!!)
