Hockey is still going on?

Believe it or not the NHL is not done with their postseason yet.  I know SportsCenter won’t let you forget that fact.  They have a obligation to you to keep you informed of all goings on.  They even went to the length of creating a Barry Melrose: The Most Interesting Analyst in the World clip this past weekend (I can’t find a vid online… that’s how much everyone cares about hockey).  But, the National Hockey League is now one step closer to finishing out their season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins finished out a four game sweep of the Hartford Whalers Carolina Hurricanes last night with a 4-1 win.  The biggest story is not the manhandling/embarrassment/win over the team formerly from the great state of Connecticut. It wasn’t Sid the Kid’s two assists to continue his playoff point streak.  Nor, was it Marc-Andre Fleury’s continuing to dominate between the pipes for the Pens (a little alliteration to start your day).

The headline people are talking about (in the hockey world) is the fact that Sidney Crosby touched the Prince of Wales Trophy (gasp!)!  Players don’t hold any trophy unless it’s Lord Stanley’s Cup.  Then again, Crosby hasn’t followed the superstition of the playoff beard (though, I’m relatively certain he’s incapable of growing facial hair… cherub faced dickhole).  He has a horomone disorder [1:45 mark] (you’re welcome, Pipez).

The NHL is now one win away from having their dream match-up; a rematch of last year between two of Hockey’s royalty.  Detroit leads their series against Chicago three games to one.  They play tonight in Hockey Town, USA.  Sixty minutes of ice-time away from fulfilling the Christmas wishes of Gary Bettman.

Enough of that… On to the Houston Sports updates:

TEXANS – Our buddy David Anderson is back at it again.  He’s talking shit on his blog about the Lakers/Nuggets series.  Come on, dude…  Engratiate yourself to the city of Houston already.  Don’t “LeBron” us and start wearing a Lakers cap around H-town.  That’s not classy.  I would also recommend either retiring from blogging (or you could come on FaF for an interview… hint hint).

ROCKETS – I don’t know if we’ve linked to this and I’m too tired to search it out… But, Cutino Mobley’s heart condition has come up again.  It’s just a shame.  You don’t want to see anybody’s professional time-line cut short because of a medical condition.  Especially a player you used to cheer for excessively.

ASTROS – Miguel Tejada was named NL Player of the Week.  Congrats Miggy.  Now go ahead and take your award provided by the United States’ bailout of the banking system and give it back.  Don’t you think that Bank of America should be more concerned with the trillions of dollars they still need from our government to break even than the American/National League player of the week?

UNIVERSITY of HOUSTON – Anyone interested in seeing a little high school baseball and softball can head up to UH.  The regional playoffs are being held at Cougar Field and my high school alma mater is still in contention.  I’m not trying to enable pedophilia or anything…  Just trying to show all that our campus has to offer.  Sickos.
