The one where can you keep a secret? Honestly, no. If I know a good story it bubbles out of me.

Harry Kalas, Mark Fidrych, Nick Adenhart
What a depressing week for baseball.
Starting with Nick Adenhart victimized by the idiocy of a mini-van driver running a red light and yesterday Harry Kalas, the voice of the Phillies and former Detroit Tigers pitcher Mark “the Bird” Fidrych passing away. If you’ve watched ESPN or read any publication/website in the last 24 hours you’ve seen it. Fourth and Fifty is jumping on that bandwagon as well.
If you haven’t been able to tell yet (I’ve kind of talked about it A LOT), I was born and raised in Philly before moving to Houston in high school. Harry Kalas was the man. Seriously. All I had in my room was a boring clock radio. I didn’t know anything about music at the time. I listened to sports radio constantly.
Harry Kalas and Richie Ashburn (who passed away in 1997) were my best friend on summer nights as I lay there sweating with the windows open because my parents refused to run the air conditioner. Most everyone in Houston will know him for his NFL Films narration. I don’t know that NFL Films will every be the same.
Anyway… That’s my attempt at being sappy this morning.
Here are your Houston sports updates:
Texans – Houston Texans news is in a drought right now. By my estimation they’ve been in their warroom for the past two weeks trying to figure out how they’re going to trick us fans into thinking they’ve made a horrbile draft choice. Fool me once, Texans, shame on you!
Rockets – With the 86-66 trouncing of the Hornets last night the Rockets have put themselves in an interesting predicament with a few different playoff scenarios. Yao Ming was well enough to play and contributed 22 points. Houston will close out the regular season against Dallas on Wednesday. A win means a division championship and a possible #2 seed in the playoffs. A loss and all that’s out the window and a possible #5 seed in the playoffs and no home-court. I love the Western Conference.
Astros – I usually approach life with a “never say ‘die’” kind of attitude (except for every other day), but this is getting to be a bit much. If you are expecting me to write a Houston sports satire blog in the summer and the Astros are going to be losing seven to nothing to the friggen Pirates it’s just not going to happen. I’m going to retire early. Shutout by the Pirates. A four-hitter! Yikes.
University of Houston – The Cougars are leading the trends ’round here. I can’t understand why race is still an issue that comes up in the hiring of a coach. But, hell, it’s a Kevin Sumlin mention so that means UH NEWS!! Then again… it’s a blog bringing it up. We all know about blogs, don’t we? Lowest of the low. Dwellers of parents’ basements…
Rice University – Keep abreast of our rival’s news… Apparently they are good at baseball. Who knew? I’m not lying here you go.
